What: A satirical farce about vampires, werewolves and melodrama. With two actors, eight characters, and 35 costume changes The Mystery of Irma Vep is a whirlwind romp through a series of humorous scenes and supernatural events. It must contain only two actors As for the other actor in this duo, Josh McCabe, he is, one feels, ever present as the silly new wife Lady Enid, who is terrified of one of his other major manifestations, Nicodemus Underwood, the demented swineherd who is missing one leg. If so, it's easy to understand why: on a warm summer night, it's weirdly fun to find oneself in the parlor of a musty English estate, with werewolves and vampires circling all around. The two hour play, written by Charles Ludlum has specific requirements for production. The Mystery of Irma Vep, which debuted in 1984, is perhaps the archetypal camp play. Expect encounters with werewolves, mummies, and the like, with a if you rearrange the letters of play's name — it makes perfect sense. Mary Tarantino's lighting concept and Keya Myers-Alkire's sound effects complete the play's faux-ominous aura. The play's title is a misnomer. As a new playwright the thing that most caught my attention from Charles Ludlum's play "The Mystery of Irma Vep" was the use of two actors and how many ideas were borrowed from other plays. Ricky Graham and Varla Jean Merman play all of the roles, incorporating break-neck costume changes and playing with theatrical conventions.
